Lewis, Centre June 2004
I spent one week working for Lewis in the kitchen department in order to gain work experience as part of my school education. It was a real insight into working in retail and as part of a large chain company. I would like to continue to gain experience in the retail industry.
Benton’s Brasserie, Heathcote Street, June – September 2008:
During the Summer of 2008, I was employed as a waitress at Benton’s Brasserie. My tasks included welcoming customers, taking drink and dessert orders, serving orders, cleaning, resetting tables and constant interaction with customers. The system used at Benton’s requires good communication with fellow employees, and I felt I worked well within the team. I gained a lot of experience here and enjoyed working with and around a lot of people. Good customer service was vital in this role and I think I gained a lot of confidence in my ability to provide it.
Home Fundraising, Sheffield. October 2008
I briefly worked for Home Fundraising, an organization which raises funds for different charities. I worked for the Breast Cancer Campaign charity, raising awareness and inviting people in the community to contribute to the cause. I was not able to continue in this position for long as it was not convenient at the time due to university commitments, which I had to prioritize. However, I found my short experience helped my confidence in communicating with people and it was a great challenge working towards targets.
Sheffield Hallam University September 2009 – June 2010
During my third year of University, I became a student ambassador representing the University to new students and prospective students. I played an active role in helping the first year students to settle in to their new life at University, offering help and advice where needed. The role also required me to work at several University Open Days throughout the year. I conducted campus tours, was involved in course talks and most importantly giving information from a student’s point of view. I really enjoyed the experience as it enabled me to reflect on my own experiences and offer advice to futurestudents. I worked alongside a dynamic group of students, lecturers and events coordinators, which was really enjoyable and I feel that I was considered a valued member of the team.

I recently volunteered my services to the NHS Trust community befriending scheme, a program which offers support to people overcoming mental health problems or living with learning disabilities. I have taken part in a training session and undergone and Enhanced Disclosure for this role. As a volunteer, I will spend a few hours each week with an NHS client, helping them to resume their normal lives and rebuild confidence in social situations. As a Psychology graduate, I am interested in mental health in particular and hope to continue my studies in this field in the future and this will help me learn more about the rehabilitation aspect.
Interests/Skills: I enjoy live music, literature, art and travel.
Basic computer skills including use of Microsoft word, Excel, PowerPoint and SPSS.
