Career objective
Looking for a challenging position of the Tax Accountant Resume the reputed University with a view to use my wide experience for the benefit of the organization.
Taxation and accounting expertise
My experience has been gained from the development of my personal client bank, from contracts I have secured with other accountancy firms and from my position at PKF together with my earlier experiences with HM Revenue and Customs. In the last few years I have managed over 400 clients where I deal with all compliance matters together with more specialised tax planning and Revenue enquiries as required. I also conduct regular client reviews in order to identify further services which can be offered to clients to maximise profitability. I am a confident negotiator and have been involved in investigation and Tribunal cases where I have negotiated successful settlements with the tax authorities saving many thousands of pounds for clients. I have supplemented my work experience by attending personal development courses and reading professional literature, to ensure I keep up to date. I am fully conversant with TaxAssistant, CCH, Sage and IRIS tax compliance software and use Excel, Word, VT, Sage Line 50 and PowerPoint regularly.
My work with entrepreneurs has given me the opportunity to obtain knowledge of a diverse range of businesses. All these businesses although different were similar in that they required careful planning, managing and monitoring to ensure that the projects were successful. In these cases, I have been instrumental in introducing management systems, marketing programs, cash flow projections, and employment compliance procedures together with the required accounting systems in all cases. One such business I was involved with for a little over 3 years was a joint venture with a UK manufacturer and an American distributor with an annual turnover in excess of $20 million. I was totally responsible for the day to day running of the venture where consideration had to be given to UK and US tax legislation. The work also included travelling regularly to the USA and the Cayman Islands to attend meetings which culminated in the taxefficient sale of my clients multi million dollar share of the venture.
I have a full understanding of the financial reporting requirement of companies, partnerships and sole traders. I personally prepare accounts for about 40 businesses annually. For many clients I prepare periodic management accounts. My accountancy work is extremely diverse and I have also developed cash flow spreadsheet models for business plans and for voluntary arrangements. My business models have successfully been used by clients to secure contracts with large companies, obtain finance for projects and form the basis of a successful voluntary arrangement.
Other skills
The diversity of my work has brought me into contact with ACAS, Business Link and HSE. I have had to conduct research into legislation and regulations which has enabled me to represent clients at Employment Tribunals, prepare contracts of employment and other employment linked procedures.
I am treasurer of our village community group and I initiated the production of a feasibility study and I have coordinated the findings to enable negotiations to commence with the local authority for the village committee to take control of the Community Centre. I am actively involved in these negotiations. I am also a member of the Steering Group for the Neighbourhood Improvement Plan.
I have planned, compiled and delivered presentations both for marketing purposes and for the community group.
My diverse range of experiences gained at both work and my outside interests has enabled me to acquire strong verbal and written communication skills thus allowing me to develop my interpersonal skills to a high level.
Ability to manage multiple tasks
I am required to work towards numerous and competing deadlines which are created by the various government bodies and I pride myself on delivering quality work within these time restraints. This is achieved by careful planning and delegation. When taking a team approach, I have found that best results are obtained by not only managing the activity but by also actively participating in completing the work.
As a person who has always been involved with a range of activities, I have developed a responsible and mature approach to any task that I undertake, or situation I am presented with. I believe that these assets will stand me in good stead for any future position I undertake.
Education
University of London Biology degree.
Airedale High School, Castleford 9 O-Levels, 2 A-Levels

Formal external and in-house training have supplemented my extensive hands on experience: Tax Law, Management, Employment Law, Health & Safety, Marketing, and Presentation Skills.
Employment History
August 2010 to present – Tax Assistant - R Jones Accountants
Currently working up to 5 days per week covering maternity leave for a practice in Wetherby undertaking all compliance work for a mixed practice of about 400 clients.
1991 to present – Self Employed Accountant and Tax Consultant
Duties
I have secured a number of contracts with independent accountants where I have been engaged in providing specialised advice on investigation matters and providing tax compliance services. In all over 400 clients have been represented since 1991.The work is extremely diverse, ranging from basic tax compliance work to more complex tax investigations and business planning. For some accountants the work has been on a one off basis for a particular matter e.g. compulsory purchase of land and the effect of Capital Gains Tax, and for others for a longer period where I have undertaken all the tax compliance work for the practice where I have prepared tax returns for sole traders, partnerships, individuals and companies using Tax Assistant, Sage, CCH and IRIS software. This was a full compliance service where Income Tax, Capital Gains Tax and Capital Allowance computations were prepared, to accompany returns. I have also provided advice to clients on how tax could be saved by careful planning. For some accountants I have planned and monitored the work and developed and introduced management systems. I also have dealt with the HM Revenue and Customs investigations, tax planning issues and Companies House compliance.
I also have small number of personal clients where I deal with all aspects of accountancy, business and tax planning and tax compliance.
I have acted for an entertainment company who produced variety shows for cruise ships. The contracts were obtained by submitting tenders each year and I was involved in successfully obtaining contracts worth over 0.5million for a number of years from Thomson's holidays.
I have been involved with the day to day running of a security company for about 18 months. This was a company with over 50 staff which was in dire need of a good management structure. I was instrumental in implementing procedures to take note of industry changes brought about by new legislation. The company was a multi-racial employer and there were many problems with various employees and in certain cases with customers relating to racial issues which had to be addressed on a regular basis. I was instrumental in developing and introducing new contracts of employment, staff handbooks and an effective grievance and disciplinary procedure.
1987 to 1991 – Tax Manager - Panell Kerr Forster
I initially dealt with complex and difficult tax return compliance work including foreign elements before working solely on investigation work. These cases ranged from the simple tax local office case to more serious fraud cases. I dealt with the more specialised Revenue departments and had to prepare detailed financial reports and develop complex spreadsheet models and was able to negotiate the best possible result for clients. The reports here would take at least 200 hours to write due to the complexities involved. Considerable research was necessary in order to understand all the aspects of how the particular business operated and to investigate case law for any precedents. After leaving I continued to act as a self employed consultant for about 12 months on a number of investigation cases until they were finalised.
Prior to 1987
I worked for the Inland Revenue until 1980, and then I ran my own accountancy and tax consultancy business in the same manner as my current operation acting for over 250 clients.
