Project Description: Guy Carpenter, a Marsh & McLennan Company, is the world's leading reinsurance intermediary, providing highly specialized risk and reinsurance services to clients for over 80 years. The project involved in providing round the clock support during development and Postproduction/Production support. Primary responsibility was database administration of nine 24x7 production OLTP databases and Database Migration. Need to maintain 9 production database instances and 30 development/test/demo instances.

Responsibilities:

• Performed installation, upgradation of oracle 9i/ 10g software in different environments, created and maintained oracle development and test databases & applying patch sets.
• Configured Physical Standby Database for High Availability and provided reports solutions.
• Performed day to day backup operations using RMAN and monitored & run Hot/ Cold Backup scripts, Incremental backup scripts etc.
• Migrated Oracle 9i databases to Oracle 10g.
• Set up Streams Schema N-Way Replication and Checked the Staging, Propagation, Apply and Error views for errors and troubleshooting them.
• Loaded external files into the Oracle database using SQL*LOADER.
• Defined and managed schemas and objects.
• Performed monitoring, tuning, troubleshooting of databases and application tuning during stress test.
• Developed UNIX shell scripts to automate the database processes.
• Handled Space Management which includes tablespace creation, adding new data files and created rollback segments. Increased the shared pool size, number of logfile groups and logfile size for better performance.
• Modified storage parameters INITTRANS, PCTUSED and PCTFREE for the database objects where necessary.
