An interest in mapping and spatial analysis was one of the main reasons I followed geography as a subject through to degree level. At university I chose several modules which reflected this interest, completing work on population movements, social deprivation and land use mapping. During this time I gained experience of using geographical information systems (GIS), conducting statistical analysis and writing reports.

WORK EXPERIENCE
August 2007- Fire Service,
My current role of GIS Data Technician gives me responsibility for maintaining the information held on the brigade’s mobilising system. My duties include liaising with Watch Commanders, Fire Safety Officers, Local Authorities and other external agencies to keep this operational information accurate and up to date. I also update the brigade’s mapbase using Cadcorp SIS and produce maps to aid decision making. Recently I worked on a project to determine the best stations for storing specialised Breathing Apparatus. Using AutoCAD I produce floor plans of high risk sites to assist fire fighting and post fire layouts of properties to aid the Fire Investigation Team.

As a CAD Technician I was responsible for maintaining Composite Mains Records. These maps showed the physical position of all plant and apparatus in the correct geographical location. The role required an ability to interpret engineers’ site drawings, operate the CAD software package MicroStation and have a good understanding of the electrical distribution network. I also gained experience working with GIS, computer based Ordnance Survey, aerial photographic information and architectural plans which often required scanning and digitising.

I marked Geography GCSE exam papers for the AQA Exam Board. This was the first time the papers had been marked electronically and required meetings and discussions with senior examiners. I also worked to check the accuracy of a sample of final scores.

As a member of the bank’s Central Outclearing Unit my tasks centred on identifying and resolving in-branch accounting errors. This involved monitoring branch balances, contacting branches and other clearing agencies and adjusting accounts.

SKILLS & TRAINING
I am computer literate having completed work using Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, Oracle Discoverer and geographical information systems including ArcGIS.
During 2008/09 I attended classes at a local college and gained a City and Guilds Certificate in AutoCAD 2D at Level 3. I also have work based experience of operating CAD software including Bentley System’s Microstation, AutoCAD 2004-2010, AutoCAD Architecture and Cadcorp SIS for which I received training at Cadcorp’s HQ.
In 2010 I completed a Level 2 NVQ in Team Leading awarded by the Institute of Leadership and Management. This course included modules on Health and Safety, Resource Management and Customer Service.
Whilst preparing and maintaining the brigade’s new property based mobilising system I have gained experience of working with the National Land and Property Gazetteer (NLPG) and maintaining spatial datasets to BS7666.
During 2002 I spent 4 months in Padua, Italy, as part of a project run by the E.U. I attended language classes and undertook a work placement. As part of a marketing department I researched and created company profiles. I also represented the company at trade fairs and produced promotional brochures and emails.
INTERESTS
I am a keen photographer and have attended evening classes on the subject where I gained experience of editing software including Adobe Photoshop.
I am a member of the Youth Hostel Association and have travelled in various countries throughout Europe, North and Central America, Asia and the Pacific.
I have been a member of a motorcycle trials club for the past 20 years. I also enjoy watching motorcycle racing and have attended races at home and abroad.
I enjoy running and have participated in several local events including the EDF Half Marathon. I also play 5-a-side football in a local league.
