ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

During my time at College, I learnt a great deal related to laboratory practice as well as basic laboratory skills. Information Technology and high tech equipment were used to underpin the theoretical aspects. I was exposed to various computer applications for Geographical Information Systems and Meteorological Data Acquisition and Statistical packages such as ARCVIEW, IDRISI (both DOS and Windows95), MathCAD, and SPSS. Also other methods such as PresTEL and including use of the Internet and World Wide Web to collect data and satellite imaging data. As well as this, a range of industry standard computing applications were used heavily such as MS DOS, Windows (from 3.11 to 2000), MS Works, MS Office, Corel WordPerfect, MS Publisher, and CAD packages. This has been helped by the fact that I have had a powerful Personal Computer at home for many years which has given me familiarity with a wide range of software.
Both my time at Raigmore and at my post with the Fish Vets I have learnt a great deal about environmental procedures and good laboratory practice (GLP). This was particularly evident at Fish Vets as this was a brand new laboratory and I was responsible for setting up Standard Operating Procedures to ensure the safe and smooth running of the laboratory. These SOPs were designed and evaluated to simplify processes/systems in order to make training and management more effective as well as compliant This was imperative to show that quality of our services was very important to us and the clients.
On a personal note, I am hard working, reliable, and can work on my own initiative or as part of a team and find it easy to get along with people both at work and home. I feel that I have very strong communications skills as well as customer and people skills. I have a welcoming and approachable manner with good technical skills and a strong desire to learn more.
Over the three years I have been at college I have passed most of the subject units with merit or at level 2 in my degree year which I believe demonstrates my ability to learn new information and disseminate the knowledge effectively. I enjoy learning and would look forward to a career that allows me to keep expanding my knowledge and possibly in the future to enhance my qualifications.
