Current Employment

Integer1 Ltd. Accrington Integer 1 Ltd evolved from the practice of Chadwick and  , where I was a partner. I lead a team which focused on projects in the retail sector and designed and delivered projects in many of the major shopping centres of the UK, and a considerable number of projects in Eire. The majority of these have been for New Look, the fashion retailers, including 5 of their `brand flag' stores. During my time with them they progressed to a major fashion retailer with a significant profile on the high street. As a member of the design and delivery team I have contributed to that image and success that they now enjoy. That work has now ceased and I have dissolved that team. Whilst my recent experience was retail focused I also have experience throughout the industry. I have worked for an extensive portfolio of clients, in both the public and private sectors (corporate and individual). I have experience of the majority of building types, construction techniques and methods of procurement. I can demonstrate extensive knowledge of the building design and procurement processes over a long period. My work in Eire regularly involved me in preparing the documentation for; Fire Safety compliance, and Opinions on Building Regulation compliance, My knowledge of the UK Building Regulations and the Scottish Building Warrant process is extensive and enhanced by that experience. I have been involved in the CDM Regulations since their inception. I managed and directed compliance with the statutory obligations of Chadwick and   and Integer1 Ltd., as designers, and also regularly provided an additional professional service to clients as (Planning Supervisor in the 1996 regulations), and as CDM Co-ordinator once the 2007 Regulations were implemented. I was a founder member of the RIBA North West Region CDM group and was also a member of the East  Chamber of Commerce Health and Safety Group. I am committed to computer-based applications as a means of communication within Construction and Architecture.

Skills and Competencies

My written, presentation and oral skills are good and I believe that colleagues respect the professional decisions I make and they regard me as a reliable source of considered advice. I have a record of successful delivery that extends over a considerable number of years. I enjoy the construction process and the technology that drives design forward and I readily adapt to `change'. I also absorb changes in construction legislation and rapidly focus on the essentials and objectives without allowing myself to be fettered or constrained by those changes. I am self motivating hard-working and not easily deterred from reaching my goals. My work as a Registered CDM Co-ordinator (CDMC) has necessitated study and implementation of Health and Safety disciplines and the elimination of risk as an integral part of the design process.

Continued Professional Development

In addition to my core skills as a practicing Architect and CDMC I am committed to Continued Personal and Professional Development. I attended on a regular basis seminars organised by both Northern Regions of the RIBA and the APS. I recently focussed my strategy on the domain specific framework that prevails in the Irish Republic. That involved a course at University College, Dublin and culminated in membership of the RIAI. I have prepared Fire Safety Compliance reports and Opinions on Compliance with Building Regulations in connection with my Irish Projects. (As I have no current projects in the Republic I have suspended my membership). That process extended my long-standing interest in the design of buildings from a fire-safety perspective. In the past my strategy has included a focus on in legal matters and includes; litigation procedures, the preparation of witness statements, and negotiations to precipitate dispute resolution. The CDM Regulations are also domain specific in the Republic and I have experience working with the differences those regulations impose on the Duty Holders. I have chaired the Architects Design Panel, which is made available to Planning Authorities in the   County Planning Authority region to advise on Design Issues in connection with Development Control. My appointment with   College involved me in the preparation of guidance notes and presentation of a course of lectures and seminars on design process and delivery, contractual process, and the CDM Regulations. I am comfortable when I have to make a presentation to a group of people but I also enjoy the interactive format of seminars and group design.

Leisure Pursuits

I am a keen golfer and was Junior Organiser of Baxenden and District Golf Club for five years where I encouraged a squad of young golfers, some of whom were selected to play in regional and county teams. For many years I pursued an interest in Motor Sport and held an International Rally Drivers Licence. My strength was as a co-driver/navigator, which involved positive direction of the driver during the competition (whilst being flung down a forest track at 100m.p.h) and the preparation and implementation of schedules for the organisation of the support crews. I was a regular competitor in National Rallies and was fortunate in one season to be paired with a talented driver and led a National Championship. International experience encompassed the RAC Rally, the Manx International and events in Holland and Belgium. I have now retired from active participation but maintain an interest through the media, and enjoy driving and vehicle maintenance as leisure pursuits.
