SYNOPSIS OF CAREER HISTORY IN SOUTH AFRICA / ZIMBABWE
My early career was within the branch system of a major banking group, where I dealt with mainly SME clients on their banking requirements, from working capital to asset finance, as well as their transactional needs.
I moved to the structured finance area of the corporate banking division, putting together tax driven structures with various funding options, from local money market instruments to foreign loans and subsidised finance. Clients included General Motors, SABMiller, Del Monte, Port Municipality, Volkswagen South Africa, and 3M.
I was appointed Regional Executive responsible for the Eastern Cape, during which time the bank restructured along the lines of market segments. This entailed internal and external change management, and required detailed communication with staff and clients. The restructuring was a success, and market share increased substantially.
My next move within the group was as Managing Director of Diners Club, an autonomous subsidiary. During my tenure I restructured the company to improve customer relationship management, credit and collections management, and introduced a marketing strategy to reflect the changing circumstances within the country. Profits improved by over 300% in this period. I was elected on to the EMEA board of Diners Club International.
I joined the StockOwners Group, a livestock marketing organisation, as CEO, where I increased the product range with internet auctions and started a developing farmer business unit to encourage the marketing of livestock by communal and small scale farmers. This involved working with community leaders and government departments to set up physical infrastructure and communication channels.
After 3 years my wife and I emigrated to the UK.
