Saint Gobain Pipelines / Steelway Brickhouse
Brickhouse Lane November 2004 - Present
West Bromwich. B70 ODY

The main aspect of the companies work is the fabrication and production of steel plate spring assisted access covers for the water industries. The products are produced by 3D parametric design, transferred to on site laser and press departments to be fabricated and finished ready for dispatch to customer.
Initially employed by Saint Gobain as a 3D design engineer to complement the existing design team using Autodesk Inventor. My job was to provide a change in focus toward new products. In addition to the design work I was tasked with the development of a drawing management system similar to that used at Savery Hydraulics, integrating the sales, production, and design departments all subject to ISO9000 and IS standards. With the sale of the company to Steelway and subsequent re-integration with Savery my position was promoted to Senior DesignEngineer and Design Office Manager overseeing a team of designers.
Since my promotion I have been involved in the development of a number of new products, involving hydraulics, roller doors, sound and fire insulation for both national and international companies. Currently I am involved in the project management of the hydraulic actuated Biomass cover range and have been involved in the design conception of the new LPCB / BRE security kiosk range, and MOD Ultra high security access covers, site survey and report writing.

Birmingham.

Employed initially as a draughtsman and subsequently upgraded to design engineer, mainly involved in the design of custom made hydraulic power units. Throughout my period of employment at Savery I have worked on units & systems for projects as diverse as MOD work, steel mills, Rover, Mira, various tails lifts, lawn-mowers & house lifts each one requiring integration with the Sales team, Production department, Purchasing and the Customer.
All design work was undertaken by use of the Autocad Mechanical Desktop 2D and 3D design package and more recently Autodesk Inventor, all of which have been developed by myself to the particular requirements of the company. Also entailed in the design work was the research and development of motors, pumps and cartridge valves. A secondary function to the design work was that of layout and design of various catalogues both for internal and customer use.
Developed as part of my job was the role of IT consultant. Initially introducing the company to Windows, I was responsible for the development of both the Design office software and the Main works to a level that greatly increased the productivity to maintain the ISO9001 level. A further development of this part of my job was to build a significant number of the computers in use though-out the works. I also developed software to enable the sales personnel to easily produce a quote on site basis on the customer’s requirements.
