Relevant Work Experience 

May 2010 – April 2011 (Fixed Term Contract): Thermo Fisher Scientific (Microbiology Division),   

Trainee Development Scientist; Antibiotic Discs Rapid Support Team 

 

Performed antibiotic susceptibility testing (AST) routinely to investigate corrective and preventative actions (CAPA’s) within the laboratory. 

 

Used the SAP and Microsoft Project packages to document and manage the investigations. 

 

Demonstrated problem solving ability to make rapid appropriate decisions to resolve customer queries. 

 

Dealt with and showed an understanding of regulatory drivers and compliance with international methods for antibiotic disc production e.g. CLSI and BSAC

 

Responsible for providing training on AST testing to a new member of staff whilst adhering to the laboratory health and safety regulations. 

 

Solo Project: 

Assigned an operational support project within 2 months of working with the company, involving the validation of a Vision System in a manufacturing area. 

 

The project has required the use of Microsoft Project in order to manage the project effectively and work within strict deadlines 

 

This project has required informal management of key stakeholders within the Operations, Quality Assurance and Production departments. 

 

This project pioneered the use of Context and Purpose documents to clearly define project tasks and outline the expected outcomes.

Negotiated with customers in arrears to make payments in order to resolve their issues and provide acceptable solutions.

 

Provided positive solutions from both the customer and the company point of view. It was vital to ensure customers did not lose access to utilities whilst maintaining the company’s revenue stream.

Academic Research 

3rd Year Research Project: Can the use of biological control agents such as Trichogramma be as effective as insecticides? 

 

I critically analysed information from various literature sources including scientific journals, textbooks and reviews in order to present an unbiased argument on the area of pest control. Numerical data from scientific papers was analysed using the SPSS statistical package in order to further support my reasoning. In addition to presenting the findings in a scientific paper, I also constructed a presentation using Microsoft Powerpoint and presented it to academic staff and fellow students.
