In the positions that I have held thus far I have gained a vast amount of experience in many fields, as well as proving myself to be more than capable of handling responsibility and being an excellent team player. Career History
October 2010 – Present Doornbos Equipment
Service Engineer
Doornbos are a market leader in the hire and sales of high pressure (HP) and ultra high pressure (UHP) pumps and associated equipment. My role here involves all aspects of engineering work required to maintain both Doornbos’ own hire fleet and any customer equipment. I am also responsible for quality testing, certification and commissioning both at the Doornbos workshops and on customer sites globally.
December 2008 – October 2010 SLD Pumps & Power
Service Engineer
SLD are a key player in the UK pump and generator market. They have a large fleet of hire equipment as well as providing support to a number of large companies for maintenance on their own equipment. My role at SLD involved servicing, repairs and preventative maintenance to their hire fleet as well as to customers own equipment as well as being involved in installing, commissioning and testing both on and offsite. I have worked on several projects alongside globally respected brands such as Nexen, Abnormal Load Engineering (ALE) and Balfour Beatty. As part of this role I worked a 24hr call out rota. My work here particularly improved my skills with diesel engines and rotating equipment (in particular pumps), although I have had opportunity to work on a large cross section of machinery and projects. I was also involved with implementing the 5S model for business improvement within the depot, furthering my knowledge of continuous improvement systems. I left SLD as offered a position with Doornbos equipment.
September 2008 – December 2008 Contracting
Pump Engineer
I left Covercat as I was offered a position working throughout Europe for companies such as Bayern Oil, BASF and BP. This involved the servicing, installing, commissioning, testing and running of pumps and pressure testing equipment and all related systems. I decided in December 2008 to accept a package based permanently in the UK based near to my home that was offered to me by SLD Pumps and Power.
September 2007 – September 2008 Covercat Spray Systems
Lead Engineer
Covercat are a global brand that design, build and service pump equipment and machinery mainly used in sealing and fireproofing. My role here was the building, servicing, repairing and commissioning of any Covercat equipment, either in the workshop or globally at customers sites as required. The vast majority of my work was with mechanical, hydraulic and pneumatic and systems and covered most aspects of engineering in these areas. I worked with several varieties of pumps, valves, air motors, switches, high and low pressure storage tanks and hydraulic rams to mention a few, as well as numerous other parts and systems. I was required to be able to strip every item to the bare bones, overhaul it as necessary and then rebuild it. This position also demanded flexibility to travel globally to our customers and operate, repair or commission any Covercat equipment. My role required a huge amount of flexibility, outstanding team building skills, a good engineering aptitude and required a high level of performance to maintain strict quality and safety standards.
July 2003 – July 2007 Virgin Media
Operations Coach
My role here involved the ongoing training of staff in the Virgin Service Centre. I was responsible for organising training plans for all staff within the department and then coaching them throughout. My other duties when not coaching included planning and scheduling work for the Virgin Media service technicians. Time management and forward planning also played a vital part in my role. I was also responsible for covering management duties within the department including resource management, target orientation, team motivation, inter-departmental relations, interviewing potential new starters, attending team meetings and rolling out new processes or procedures. I took a voluntary redundancy from Virgin Media in order to return to a more hands on position.
January 2001 – July 2003 Elring Klinger
Machine Controller
Elring Klinger is a multinational company, which manufactures gaskets and seals used in the engineering and automotive sectors. My position here involved the setting, programming and maintaining of the machines in my section. These machines include conveyors, ovens, large and small hydraulic presses and other various machines used in the manufacturing of gaskets. Part of my role involved the approval and signing off of quality samples set by our customers. It also involved product testing, S.P.C controlling and other quality requirements in line with the needs of our OEM’s. I was also responsible for ensuring the final product met all necessary quality specifications before delivery.
April 2000 – December 2000 Samsung Electronics
Despatch Operative
On my return to Teesside I worked briefly for Samsung Electronics, Wynyard. My role here was as an operative in the despatch department and involved most aspects of warehouse work.
April 1994 – December 1999 McKechnie Vehicle Components
Various Positions
McKechnie Vehicle Components is a worldwide company who manufacture high quality car components for most major vehicle manufacturers. My roles within this company began with my start as a maintenance technician on a spray plant. I was responsible for setting up, general maintenance, planned maintenance, shutdowns and running repairs on a multitude of different equipment including hydraulic presses, conveyors, burners, ovens, extraction systems and many others. I was then promoted to department manager and my duties included liasing with customers whilst also taking care of the day-to-day responsibilities of running a busy department and meeting tight schedules. Whilst working as department manager I was responsible for all quality issues in my department as well as hitting internal and external KPI’s. This included travel to build plants to agree quality standards, 8D improvements, product testing, on-site problem solving, managing customer returns, audits and also improving customer relations with field visits. My last post was working in the logistics section. I accepted a redundancy package in December 1999.
Summer 1991 – April 1994 Cowies Vauxhall
Motor Vehicle Technician
Cowies, now ‘Drive’, are a large vehicle retail/repair chain and Vauxhall main dealer. My work there began as an apprentice technician and ended with my successfully passing all of the ensuing tests and examinations which were both manual and written, all of which I passed with high grades. I am fully time served and capable of working on all types of vehicles. I still to this day enjoy working on cars and think that my apprenticeship has given me a good grounding mechanically.
Personal Development
In the companies that I have worked for so far I have had the opportunity to partake in several courses to help develop my skills, such as: Site safety passport, First aid certified, Fork lift licence, Abrasive wheel training, CSCS Site card and Water Jetting Association recognition.

Hobbies and Interests
I am a keen sportsman and take a particular interest in football, both supporting Middlesbrough F.C. and playing for local sides. I enjoy going to the gym, listening to music, reading and watching some television. I also enjoy tinkering with cars occasionally, gardening and some DIY. I have a young son who I spend my spare time with whenever possible.
