Key Skills and Personal Qualities
I pride myself on being an adaptable person, able to successfully apply myself to a varied and versatile range of tasks. I am at ease outside of my comfort zone and enjoy the challenge of learning new skills. As an outgoing person, I enjoy meeting new people and am able to communicate on many levels and through many mediums, adapting the style and method used to suit the recipient.
I have experience using a wide range of software including call logging systems (SAP, Remedy UHS, etc) and Microsoft Office systems (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, etc), as well as various internet browsers (Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox). Through this I find I am able to quickly grasp most systems and so regard myself as computer literate. This experience is also reflected in my typing skills, as I can both copy type and audio type to a high level of skill and accuracy under pressure. This is probably best shown by the call centre work I have undertaken - a job role which has enabled me to employ my people skills, dealing with a wide range of difficult situations effectively. Whilst confident in my abilities, I am also aware of my limitations and so am not afraid to ask for assistance when required.
Work Experience
01/2007 - Present
Siemens Enterprise Comms 1st Line Agent/Technician
Turnells Mill Lane
Northants
I took this position after spending 3 months travelling around Australia. At Siemens I work on a desk specialising in the care of the telephony equipment for a major blue chip company. I provide technical support for mobile phones and hands-free car kits, complete diagnostic tests and pass out faults to 3rd party suppliers. After passing these faults out, I continue to manage them - ensuring that work is completed and faults rectified to the satisfaction of the customer. I also take calls for telephony system faults for a wide range of major companies and governmental institutions, taking detailed technical information and logging calls onto Remedy UHS or SAP before routing the fault to relevant engineer groups to deal.
Although I enjoy working here I feel that I have taken what I can from this position and would like to now expand my knowledge and try something new that will present more of a challenge. I have elected to learn new skills outside of my role (involving Teleware, Avaya and Mitel systems). However, Siemens is currently undergoing a period of change and, with a headcount freeze in operation, as a temp I am unable to progress in my learning, leading me to look for new opportunities.
02/2007 - 08/2007
Steiner Leisure Ltd Massage Therapist
For Steiner I worked as a massage therapist in a 5 star spa on the cruise liner Royal Caribbean. Working away from home for six months, this role often meant working up to 14 hours a day (massaging up to 10 guests a day). As well as providing therapies, the spa team had sales targets for products and so I was required to retail to my guests to ensure that these were met, a task which often created a very pressured work environment. Although this role was often hard work, it was extremely enjoyable to meet people of all nationalities from all walks of life. Working within the spa I also helped to man the busy reception desk, making appointments and answering the phones.
Whilst working on the cruise liner I had to both live and work with my colleagues, a task which presented me with the opportunity to develop my people and negotiation skills! From a professionalism perspective this role has, so far, been the best experience for me as before joining the ship, the company puts its staff through five weeks of training so that standards are high enough to ensure appropriate levels of professionalism on board the ship. I left this position to spend more time at home with my family.
06/2005 - 1/2007
Various Administrator/Marketing Implementation
During this time frame I worked in a variety of marketing roles (for Emplass Conservatories, BCC Marketing and BMT Marketing). Tasks ranged from telemarketing and database up-keep to the implementation of a postal-based marketing scheme for potential clients. These were temporary positions which I undertook while awaiting my training dates from Steiner.
03/2002 - 06/2005
KFC Team Leader
Northants
I started at KFC as a part-time team member shortly before leaving school, continuing here whilst at college and being promoted to a team leader. My responsibilities included opening and closing the branch, cash handling, customerservice (and dealing with any complaints), overseeing staff members, ensuring that food hygiene and cleanliness standards were maintained and cooking and preparing food. I was also a key holder in this position. I enjoyed this job as I got to work with friendly people and develop my people and management skills. I left here as they could only offer me part-time hours and I required full-time employment.
05/2001 - 09/2001
Don Miller's Bakery Retail Assistant
Swansgate Centre
Northants
This was a part-time Saturday job. My duties here included setting up the shop, stacking shelves, dealing with customers, handling money and using the cash register. I gained great experience, and confidence, here dealing with members of the public and as part of a team. I left here to concentrate on my studies.
1999
Ruskin Junior School Work Experience Placement
Ruskin Avenue
Northants
I worked here in the office for two weeks as part of a Year 10 work experience placement. My duties included answering the telephone, writing letters and general administration work.
Interests/ Objectives
I have many hobbies including meeting new people and socialising with my friends -going shopping, watching films and eating out. I enjoy a challenge and the opportunity to further my skills and knowledge. I'm keen to continue my development and hope to commence a part-time IT course in the future. Over recent years I have had the opportunity to indulge my passion for travelling - this is something I hope to continue around a future career.
