Previous employment
Throughout studying at Northumbria University I worked for an agency in which I was send to various locations requiring me to carry out a range of job roles as detailed below:
Reed Agency Newcastle
Dates: Jan 2007- Jan 2010
Job positions:
Kitchen assistant at Newcastle University student halls, Northumbria Water, Nike industrial park Sunderland- duties included preparing and cooking food, serving food to customers, checking stock, handling cash, using the till, refilling fridges, operating machinery like large waste disposal units and large washer/dryer machinery for plates and crockery.
This post educated me on good customer care and interaction as well as good practice in a kitchen environment. I learned how to cook food within a time limit and worked to tight deadlines ensuring everything was adequately prepared for the dinner time rush. Good food hygiene was always demonstrated due to the environment in which I worked paying particular attention to cleanliness. I also had to operate kitchen machinery which was of a high risk. I feel I could demonstrate every element required to be a successful kitchen assistant if the opportunity arose.
Receptionist at Barclays- duties included answering the telephone and dealing with customer enquiries, taking telephone bookings for meeting rooms for clients, using the computer software to access emails sent for bookings or other requirements, photocopying important documents for clients, setting up required software in meeting rooms for clients i.e. spider phones for conference calls, setting up computers for clients. I also had to ensure all meeting rooms and the communal kitchen area was tidy before I was able to leave.
This post improved my customer interaction skills significantly as it was essential that I spoke to customers and clients in a professional language especially as I dealt with numerous managers of the bank on a day to day basis. In addition I was also educated in the process of taking important bookings for meetings and setting up rooms and required sources for mangers at the bank. I gained sound knowledge of Barclays computer software and improved my telephone interaction skills remarkably. This post was of some importance and it was essential that I carried out all duties successfully. I feel I carried out all duties successfully and I enjoyed the responsibility which this job entailed.
On leaving University i acquired a position as a CA at United Utilities in Whitehaven from 09th June 2010 to 28th September 2010, this was a temporary position only. This post provided me with experience dealing with difficult customers, improved my customer interaction and people skills.
